We’re delighted to have welcomed the Easley High School Student Council to East End! Our Bulldogs had a fantastic time playing games and connecting with these inspiring role models. We truly appreciate the time and energy you all invested in building these relationships. Help us spread the word! Now recruiting people who want to make a big difference in the life of an elementary school child as a Reading Buddy Volunteer! Reading Buddies meet twice a week for 30 minutes with 2-3 children at East End Elementary School. Volunteers will have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with a child, see a child’s reading skills and confidence grow, share your love of reading and books with children, and use your creativity and innovation to facilitate learning. Becoming a Reading Buddy requires a SLED background check, and a National Sex Offenders Registry Check. The minimum age is 18, and training is provided. I would like to announce that the United Way of Pickens County has awarded East End $16,500.00 for our “Brilliant Bulldog Den”. This program is designed to provide parenting and reading workshops throughout the year. Most of the resources will be materials that will go home to parents to use with their students. We are very excited for this opportunity! A special thank you to Mrs. Spearman who continues to show her passion for early literacy and applying for this grant and also to United Way for graciously partnering with East End. I look forward to these family events, as we unite to promote a love for reading!
