On Day 4 of Week of the Young Child at Liberty Primary, we celebrated “It Takes a Village Thursday”! On this day, we partnered with the Pickens County Career and Technology Center next door to provide our students with enriched learning opportunities that encouraged their unique interests and exposed them to possible career opportunities as they grow older. It truly takes all of us - parents, teachers, community members, career specialists, coaches, mentors - standing behind these kids, encouraging and empowering them to “be anything they want to be” in order to facilitate change in our community. It’s Day 2 of the Week of the Young Child - Artsy Tuesday! Today, students used art to express their understanding of concepts they are learning in class. They used mirrors to paint self portraits and illustrated a piece of writing. They painted upside down like Michelangelo, and made paper mache hot air balloons, life size silhouettes, and tin foil sculptures! Ask your kiddos what they created today- and check out the newsletter linked below to find out ways to incorporate art activities at home! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1g4EzIfTDJI71c3eNRmBFT8gaaltr1JV_/view?usp=drivesdk

Happy Sunday, PACK! This week at LPS, we are celebrating NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child. The purpose is to “focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and services that meet those needs”. We recognize that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children’s success in school and later life. Throughout the week, we will celebrate the many ways that children learn through themed days and activities (Music & Movement Monday, Artsy Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, It Takes a Village Thursday, and Fun Read Friday). Be on the lookout for a newsletter posted each day full of information on how kids’ brains work and grow. For now, check out this video! https://youtu.be/hMyDFYSkZSU

As part of the plan for our LPS second graders to transition to LES next year, Liberty Elementary staff are coming to LPS each month for the remainder of the year. The purpose of the visits is to get to know their future students, make connections with them, and share a fun activity that will help the students get excited for third grade. Today, principal Dr. Haynes and teachers Mrs. Vess and Ms. VanGieson introduced themselves to our students and decorated cookies with them! What a “sweet” start to their journey as Liberty Labs next year! We look forward to connecting with LES more in the coming months! #oneLiberty

Kindness is in the air this February at LPS! At least once a quarter, our seven PACKs contribute to a service project in order to spread kindness around our community. This month, we are collecting cards to give to various community groups to show our appreciation for all they do for our school and the town of Liberty. Check out the flyer linked below to see which group your PACK will show appreciation for - and start making your cards! Cards will be collected from now until Thursday, February 17th. Let's spread kindness around our community! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cO-FaTaSGE9s7FR_bFR0cqYwMQsFkHVb/view?usp=sharing
